The other day I woke up to a brisk 32 degrees and knew it was about time to blow the dust off my scarf bin, hidden somewhere in the attic. After a good thirty minutes of searching, I found the cozy bin of scarves and was reminded how lucky we’ve been with the weather so far this fall. Usually, my scarf bin is welcomed come early September, but now that the cooler weather has arrived and flu season is amongst us, it’s time to bundle up and stay warm. 

I’ll admit, sometimes, I take bundling up to the extreme and start to resemble the younger brother from A Christmas Story, but over time I’ve learned that staying warm doesn’t have to be a fashion don’t! Recently I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking about my fall and winter essentials, and my number one picks are always quality good scarves and gloves, especially on those windy days. 

After hitting send on the email, I often get a quick reply asking for tips and tricks on how to style a scarf, which makes sense, as it was something I struggled with for the longest time. Anyway, for a while, I avoided this post as I really didn’t think pictures alone could do it justice. So when my sister Tessie signed onto the TCC Crew as our videographer, I knew we could finally do this post and do it right. 

Above you’ll see a video breaking down 5 Ways to Style a Scarf This Holiday Season, and below I’ve broken down each style and popular items I pair them with to complete the look. Anyway, let’s jump right in. 

1) The Basic Scarf 

This scarf style is best recreated with a thin wool scarf. It’s as easy as tossing the scarf on and running out the door. The scarf I’m wearing above is last year’s version of this scarf, and I know it’s a scarf I’ll continue to use time and time again. 

2) The Loop Da Loop

This scarf style is best recreated with a thin wool scarf, as to keep the loop simplistic and clean. This scarf style is one you’ll see me wear on windy days. By looping the scarf around your neck you’ll make sure to keep your face and chest warm and sheltered from the brisk New England air. I love pairing this scarf with a funnel neck sweater and my new obsession Diane Gilman jeans. 

3) The Freddie from Scooby Doo

Who would have thought ascots would be back in, not me, but at the same time I’m not complaining. If you live in a warmer area and want to forgo wrapping yourself in wool, I’d 100% recommend investing in a few silk ascots. They are really quite easy to tie, and not to mention if you get sick of wearing it while out, just tie it onto your purse as a statement. The silk ascot has honestly been my favorite trend of 2017. 

4) Frosty The Snow Man

This scarf style was inspired by the snowman himself, Frosty! When recreating this look I always recommend going for a scarf with some hefty fringe, like this piece. I love wearing this scarf style with heels or tall booties, as it really adds length and dimension to the outfit. By covering your neck with the scarf you’ll be sure to stay warm and stylish this upcoming holiday season. 

5) The Blanket Scarf

Last but not least, let’s chat about the classic blanket scarf. If you are traveling home for the holidays, I would highly recommend purchasing one of these bad boys. Not only do blanket scarfs complete a winter outfit they also work as, well you guessed it, a BLANKET! So whenever I’m traveling home to CT from Dallas you’ll find me wearing one of these scarves and then the moment I’m seated on the plane,  unwrap this number into a blanket. I wish all my accessories were as cute and convenient as blanket scarves.
