Today I’m here to breakdown the ever-evolving food scene in Mystic! Everything about Mystic in the summer is quintessentially New England.

From sailboats to historic homes lining the shore, Mystic will always have a special place in my heart. When our associate copywriter, Lauren, and I were reviewing towns in need of feature on our site we were surprised Mystic was one of them.

On summer nights, my family and I often head down to Mystic for a seafood dinner. When I visit Mystic for a day, I always fuel up on my addiction – lavender lattes from Sift Bakery. From delicious bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches to mussels doused in white wine – Mystic has it!

Below you’ll find a breakdown of the food scene in Mystic along with a variety of spots you must check out during your next visit:

Exploring The Food Scene In Mystic

1) Java, Sweets, & Savory Eats

 Sift – Bake Shop whips up some amazing desserts! The French-style bakery offers artisanal bread, barista brews, fresh pastries, savory quiche, and giant cookies, Recently, my Auntie Joanne’s birthday cake was purchased from Sift and it was an all-around hit!

Vault Coffee Roasters offers everything from coffee and baked goods to bagels and smoothies. The exterior of Vault Coffee Roasters is wicked cozy – perfect for Spring and Autumn in New England. Donut lovers can get their hands on the handcrafted deviant goodie Friday through Sunday! 

Rise is the perfect spot for brunch or a coffee on the go. Try their classic New England bacon egg and cheese or indulge in something sweet like Cakey McPancakes – Matt’s favorite!

2) Dinner

The Oyster Club is one of my favorite restaurants! I suggest the mussels in white wine or roasted chicken dinner. This spot offers a great happy hour too – with fresh oysters – yum!

 Mystic Pizza has been serving “Slices of Heaven” since 1973. The popular restaurant inspired the 1988 Julia Roberts hit movie Mystic Pizza – which was filmed at this exact spot. Their pizza lives up to the hype – bit If you’re not in the mood for a slice – Mystic Pizza offers grinders, salads, calzones, and unique items like fried pickles!

Red 36 Bar & Grill is a dockable restaurant – meaning tons of fresh seafood and sunset views! Visitors can grab a glass of wine or a cocktail at the outside bar overlooking the Mystic waterfront. Come Fall and Winter, you can cozy up indoors next to the fire with the catch of the day!

The Capt. Daniel Packer Inne has been in service for over 200 years! The Inne offers options like authentic New England clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, surf & turf, and even casual plates. In their pub, they offer live music every single night!

3) Ice Cream

Mystic Drawbridge is one of my favorite ice cream spots! The shop makes all their ice cream. candies, baked goods, and coffee homemade in-house. With “Drawbridge Originals” like Chocolate Carmel Cheesecake and Seaport Salty Swirl – you can’t go wrong with a scoop or three. Plus, it’s located on the historic seaport which is surrounded by tons of cute shops!

Twisters Ice Cream is a riverfront spot! At Twisters you can order a sprinkle dipped soft-serve cone, classic banana split, or create your own sundae with tons of hard ice cream and topping options!
