This is the best time of year for foodies to visit New England! From cider donuts to maple lattes, we know how to embrace local flavors and seasonal produce. Local cider mills certainly do fall justice! As many of you head to New England for leaf-peeping, I’m sharing cider mills in New England you need to visit. 

THE HARD PRESSED CIDER COMPANY  | Jamestown, Rhode Island

Fall weekend getaways are my favorite! This year I hope to head east to visit The Hard Pressed Cider Company! During the fall, the company presses cider each Saturday and bakes fresh cider doughnuts on Saturday and Sundays.

I plan to get my hands on a customer-favorite donut at a company new to the historic game of making cider. Founded in 2005, the cider company has made strides. Earlier this year the company purchased a farm in West Greenwich to grow their own apple trees and in the future build their own cidery (a building exclusively for the making of cider).

If you’re a long-time reader, you know my family has worked in the produce industry for decades and has built strong relationships with local farmers. So, to see a new company honor the New England apple is heartwarming and worth supporting! 

COLD HOLLOW CIDER MILL | Waterbury Center, Vermont

Matt and I discovered Cold Hollow Cider on our recent trip to Manchester, Vermont. With ‘legendary’ cider donuts that live up to the name and cider production with a traditional 1920s rack and cloth press on full display, Cold Hollow Cider Mill is worth the visit!

The mill is home to a full bakery and Apple Core Luncheonette & Brew – which offers breakfast, lunch, beer and of course – hard cider!

RICHARD HILL ORCHARD | Turner, Maine

I don’t think anyone has created more of a well-rounded Cider Mill than Richard Hill Orchard. They offer a range of activities, food, and beverages for the atypical fall-goer. With apple picking, pumpkin patches, caramel donuts, hard cider, and a cider mill tour this orchard is worth a day-trip with a group of friends.

Whether you’re seeking to have your fall food cravings quenched or looking for a foliage-filled daytime activity, Richard’s Hill Orchard has something for everyone – including kids!

B.F CLYDE’S CIDER MILL | Old Mystic, Connecticut

This year I visited B.F Clyde’s Cider Mill for the first time. This mill has been on my bucket list ever since Matt and I moved back to Connecticut and I was grateful that we had time to sneak away and visit.

Unlike other orchard-based cider mills, B.F Clyde’s Cider Mill is a historical landmark with the oldest steam-powered cider mill in the United States. The mill started hard cider production all the way back in 1881! I highly recommend stopping here after leaf-peeping around the Connecticut coastline.

CIDER CO.  | Barlett, New Hampshire

Cider Co. is the most romantic cider mill you’ll ever visit!

You can make reservations in the award-winning restaurant nestled inside of an 1880’s farmhouse. I’ve linked the menu here. If a romantic getaway to this cider mill isn’t in the cards for you, visit the mill to watch fresh cider being pressed on the weekends! Fulfill all your cidery needs by stopping into the onsite red barn market filled with locally sourced products.

Did you know fall is not just the best time of year to visit New England for seasonal goodies, it’s also the season for style!

Come autumn, New Englanders do not shy away from earthy tones, cozy textiles and of course plaid. So, I need to discuss Matt and mine’s Red Fleece attire. Come summer and holiday, my wardrobe annually changes into almost all Red Fleece – from this gorgeous tartan double-breasted coat to piles on top of pile of corduroy pants for both Matt & I, something about their classic style and use of deep fall hues has me enchanted.

In fact, I have to thank Red Fleece’s versatile and comfortable designs for singly handedly elevating Matt’s fall style. He truly is the pickest of clothing shoppers, but from outwear that’s durable and stylish – like this wax jacket and sweaters that are easy for him to transition from work to play has turned him into quite the fashionista – whether he’d admit that I don’t know.
