I don’t know how it can get hotter than this past weekend, but the people in Texas tell me to prepare myself. If you follow Matt and I on Snapchat or Instagram, then you already know that we spent this past weekend exploring South Texas.
We stayed overnight at the Westin Austin Downtown and covered Austin, Gruene, and San Antonio. I’ve been to both Austin and San Antonio before, but I was excited to explore these unique cities with Matt.
On Saturday I found myself again, on the little-cobbled streets of the historic Riverwalk. To me, the Riverwalk will never get old, for two reasons primarily, chips and salsa. Not kidding, between great history and delicious food; the Riverwalk is a day-trip destination station.
Matt and I had the best day, exploring the Riverwalk hand in hand, thanks to our concierge Dave Dart from The Westin: Austin Downtown. He actually emailed me a guide, of his favorite spots and I included the spots I had a chance to visit below!
San Antonio Day Trip Guide:
Drinks:
Menger Hotel: Historic Bar
This historic bar and hotel had the likes of Teddy Roosevelt walk through its grand entrance. The bar is something to see, and marks the location where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders! Not to mention this hotel is haunted, that’s as historic as it gets!
Food:
LuLu’s Bakery & Cafe: Open 24/7
This place was delicious and is actually famous for their chicken fried steak, need I say more!
SEE:
+ The Alamo
+ The Riverwalk
Needless to say, we kept ourselves busy. So before heading out of the city, we traveled down the river in an iconic Riverwalk boat tour. I just love touristy things, it really pumps me up, watching other people share their home and history with strangers from all over.
Our afternoon in San Antonio was perfect, but boy was it hot, I was so thankful that I decided to throw on this cotton eyelet dress before heading down. Maybe we got an extra humid day, or maybe I was a little nieve when thinking about the heat, but it was toasty. So thank goodness for lightweight cotton and the light breeze.
Anway, comment below and share your favorite spots in San Antonio! I’d love to get your recommendations.
