March is a hit or miss month here in New England.

One day we could be knee-deep in snow (with more snow on the horizon) and the next we could be planting hydrangeas while seeding the lawn in anticipation for spring. New England weather is difficult to gauge, but the unpredictability of March creates stress when planning a getaway. So far, this year’s winter weather has extended into March – as we continue to see dropping snowflakes and temperatures. With a need for a getaway and another reason to bundle up, our team decided to head north to Quechee, Vermont.

Whether you’re traveling from Connecticut, Boston or New York – Quechee, VT is an easy car ride away. As we traveled to Quechee it was exciting to experience a true Vermont winter with scenic snow-dusted views. For our trip, we had the opportunity to partner with Quechee Lakes Vermont (QLVT) and stay at one of their new rentable farmhouse cabins.

Come snow, rain, sleet or shine – we’ve created the perfect travel guide for anyone looking for a Vermont getaway:

1) Stay

While scrolling through places to stay in Vermont, I knew our crew would enjoy their long weekend away in a cabin Cramming into a hotel room with your winter wear, sled, ski gear, and snowshoes after a long day exploring isn’t always relaxing.

Staying in the newly constructed farmhouse cabin at Quechee Lakes was a perfect fit. Renters get access to the Quechee Club – which features an indoor pool, a workout facility, and indoor spa. Visitors can take advantage of the season services the Quechee Club offers as well. During our stay, Matt, Tessa, and I utilized the Quechee Club by renting snowshoes for just $17 a day! We snowshoed around the small town, taking in the scenic sights, while getting in quite a workout.

Most places in the area close by 9:00PM, so my favorite part of having a farmhouse to ourselves was the access to whip up late-night desserts, cozy up by the fireplace, and watch Netflix.

Since this trip to Vermont was by far my favorite, I’m asking my family to rent out the cabin again in October – because no one does fall quite like northern New England!

2) Eat

Every time I visit Vermont I’m blown away by the locally sourced creative fare restaurants dish out. Generally, the cuisine has a higher price point. So, I always allocate extra cash for dining out – which is worth every cent!

Here are my favorite restaurants in the Quechee-Woodstock area:

#1) Worthy Kitchen: We waited an hour for a seat at this local hot spot and it was defiantly worth the wait because this place has it all! Worthy Kitchen is a must for lunch, dinner, or a bar run. If you’re hungry for American comfort food – think double-patty burgers, chicken fried sandwiches or mac & cheese – or a winter dish, like a quinoa bowl or udon noodles – you’ll find it on the menu. As for quenching your thirst, you’ll find rose-hibiscus kombucha on tap.

#2) Mon Vert Cafe: During our trip, I visited this cafe everyday! I LOVE lavender lattes and Mon Vert Cafe makes a perfect cup. My only regret is not asking for the recipe because a lavender latte is an art and this one is the BEST I’ve ever sipped.  Whether you’re seeking out a morning coffee or you’re looking for an afternoon lunch (try the Gobble It Up panini!) Mon Vert Cafe is SO good!

#3) Simon Pearce: This iconic restaurant, bar, and glass blowing shop is headquartered in Quechee. If you’re heading to Vermont for a romantic getaway, I recommend booking a table at their picturesque flagship store. The table is located inside a restored mill, which overlooks a beautiful waterfall and the Quechee wood covered bridge. Simon Pearce is on the more expensive side, but they do offer a delicious lunch menu that’s kinder to your wallet.

#4) Pizza Chef of Quechee: Looking for an affordable food option that’s open past 9:00PM? Look no further than Pizza Chef of Quechee. Around 9:30PM on Saturday, our crew was ready for a second dinner.  The local grocery stores were all closed and we were out of cookie dough, so we decided to go for a drive until we found something open. Luckily, we found Pizza Chef of Quechee! With a variety of delicious thin crust pizza, this place is a great spot for just you or a large group of people.

#5) Mountain Creamery: This infamous restaurant, located in downtown Woodstock, is all about farm-fresh ingredients. They prepare all their food from scratch! Our crew was a little tired and indecisive on Sunday. So, I polled Instagram stories to ask you all for breakfast recommendations. Everyone suggested Mountain Creamery! As soon as we stepped in the door and it smelt like buttermilk pancakes, I knew we were in for the perfect breakfast. I ordered a New England classic: a simple bacon, egg, and cheese. It was anything but simple. My breakfast sandwich was served on a freshly made bagel with local Vermont cheddar cheese. Yum!  Word on the street is Mountain Creamery is famous for their pie. Therefore, I’m already planning a return trip!

3) To-Do:

Year-round, there is so much to do in this little town. If you find yourself in Vermont during the winter – staying at this farmhouse cabin – you ought to give skiing a try. With close proximity to Killington, Okemo, and Suicide Six ski resorts you have plenty of options to hit the slopes. If skiing isn’t your forte, you can always utilize the Quechee Club by taking part in the long list of activities they offer both renters and membership residents.

Those looking for a less active weekend: I’d highly recommend antiquing! With several local antique shops in the area, you’ll score some great home pieces. I recommend checking out Vermont Antique Mall and Antiques Collaborative.

Finally, if you’re into scenic photography or historic buildings: pack your walking shoes! Between Quechee, Taftsville and Woodstock you’re certain to come across wood covered bridges and colonial American homes.
