Now, Christmas break is by far one of the most wonderful times of the year. Whether you’re on a college break or cashing in some of your vacation days like our crew is this week, now is the best time of year to take a break and head out on an adventure. Matt was kind enough to list off some of, what we think are, the best places to visit in New England during winter break. But before we jump into that, let’s talk about these Kiel James Patrick Sweaters, shall we! Matt and I desperately needed to invest in new holiday sweaters this year, and couldn’t help but check out what the KJP team had in store. To be honest, it was hard picking one sweater each because the prints are all so cute. However, I always find that hardest part when it comes to buying online, is figuring out the sizing. Usually, I’m a size medium but I sized down for my sweater and sized up for Matt’s sweater as they’re labeled unisex. All and all these sweaters are WORTH the investment, and I already plan on purchasing one of their crewnecks apres-ski sweater for winter!
Okay, I digress, but with all that being said, I hope this inspires you to make the most of your break and with no further ado, Matt, take it away…
The holiday break was a time I looked forward to most because the papers, tests, projects and anything else stressful was officially behind you until “next year”. We all had a solid month to do whatever we wanted with friends, family, and significant others. Believe it or not, that month always flies by and doesn’t hit you until January 5th that you realize you did absolutely nothing that entire month. It was always on the drive back to school that I wish I did this, or I wish I saw this person until I finally put my bag in my dorm room and it was time for class. Below I’ve provided some places to visit and activities to do with family and friends so you don’t make the same mistakes I did.
Best Places To Visit In New England During Winter Break:
Visit the Bushnell:
Aubrey and I always carve out time for a night on the town in Hartford and a relaxing evening at The Bushnell. In fact, last week we were fortunate enough to see the play, Hamilton. Of course, we absolutely loved the play, but we also like the excuse to head into Hartford for a night out. Downtown is filled with restaurants worth the wait, including but not limited to: Max’s Downtown, Agave Grill, Irish Public House, and Capital Grill.
Hit the slopes:
Aubrey and I’s favorite mountains to visit, during the fridged New England winter, are Stratton and Okemo both located in Vermont. Stratton not only offers a great mountain to ski but has the best restaurants and bars throughout the town for young adults like us. If you know Aubrey, then you might know that she actually hates skiing and snowboarding; but is always down for a quick trip up to Vermont to capture images on the slopes with Tessa, while the rest of her family and I ski. You can see how she styled the mountains of Vermont, last year in this and this post.
Ice Fishing:
This year will be the first year that Aubrey and I attempt to ice fish on Lake Winnipesaukee with our friends and my family. We have been told to bring our parkas, mittens, hats, and our Sperry boots to stay warm; so I can only imagine the outfit Aubrey has planned for this activity. I mean, do you guys remember the last time she went fishing…if you missed the post YOU NEED TO CHECK IT OUT, here!
Snow Shoeing:
There are several trails throughout New England known for their snowshoeing. I would recommend testing out a trail in your area because almost all of them are riddled with breathtaking views and sounds of wildlife throughout. Aubrey and I have officially purchased out first snowshoes, and are excited to snowshoe the trails surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee in Laconia and Meredith New Hampshire.
Catch a Wolf Pack Game on Friday ($2 beers, $1 hotdog):
There is nothing better than enjoying a hockey game with your buddies while sipping on a $2 beer. The tickets are cheap, the action is great and you can virtually sit where ever you want in the arena.
Escape To Omni Mount Washington Resort:
Aubrey and I, both often had visitors, coming home with during our college winter breaks. Whether it was her friends from California looking for a White Christmas or my friends from St. Lawrence just driving through, it’s always a good idea to get a group together and head up north. While I’m fortunate enough to have a home up north in New Hampshire, I just can’t help but escape to Omni Mount Washington Resort. From tubing to sleigh rides; this is the picturesque place you’ll want to stay if you’re looking to experience the stunning views and activities of winter in New England.
