You may have noticed cooler temperatures creep into New England this week and the need to grab a warm jacket or wool sweater. I mean, I’m sure you’ve noticed and when the brisk holiday weather moves into town, I often find my hair to be extremely difficult. Either it’s wicked flat, due to all the static cling or just plain staticky from being fumbled each time I pull a turtleneck over my head; either way, you could say tis the season for hair accessories. So today, I’m going to share some of my go-to hair accessories along with how to properly style headbands in your twenties.

When you think of hair accessories as an adult, most women think about investing in practical options like hats, earmuffs and hair ties; but today I want to remind you all that you CAN in fact style headbands and other feminine hair accessories, like barrettes and bows; into your twenties, thirties and beyond. Since my hair won’t keep a curl, I get a lot of questions about other ways to add dimension and style to my hair, which was something I struggled with for a long time. But I’m here to help you learn from my mistakes and triumphs which is why I always encourage readers and friends to embrace the grown-up versions of our childhood classics! From this tulle skirt, I styled last holiday season, to this pair of patent leather Mary Janes I just ordered…you can bring your iconic childhood staples into your adult years and that includes my favorite childhood accessory, the classic headband.

To pull off a headband hairstyle in your twenties, focus on finding the right style and fit for your head. I would recommend finding a headband with either an embellished piece or unique texture; while avoiding those classic thin plastic headband, I rocked day in and day out in the 90’s. Remember we are trying to take your flat hair and add volume that’ll give your hairstyle a polished and sophisticated look. So, if you still need a little more guidance, I’ve listed some examples of headband’s I’ve recently purchased and what look I was aiming for by purchasing, below!

My number one reason for investing in headbands is for work events! Whenever I want to look professional, especially when I’m headed to NYC for business, I channel my inner Blair Waldorf and create a preppy business look with the following headbands found here, here and here. The second reason I reach for a headband in my twenties is for special events, let’s say you’re headed to a holiday party and just can’t get those curls to stay; why not add a touch of sparkle instead! For holiday parties I’d recommend the following headbands found here, here and here. Okay, the last reason I reach for a headband in my twenties is for probably the most relatable, it’s for those dry shampoo days. Personally, I have wicked dry hair which means I try to wash my hair at least every other day; which can be an issue in the winter when my hair is extra flat. So to bring some life back into my dry shampoo hair, I’ll often add a headband. For casual days around the house, when I want my hair to look nice but away from my face, I reach for this headband here

Okay, so that’s how I’ve been styling headbands into my twenties; and I encourage you to consider investing in a few new hair accessories before we head into the most hectic time of the year. Again, I’ll list all of my favorite headbands below, that’ll give you that classic American look.
