Happy Memorial Day weekend guys! I can’t believe it is already here but I’m so grateful for the long weekend and the time it gives me to catch up and reunite with family and friends. Matt is still in Dallas but I was lucky enough to have the luxury of spending the long weekend in Connecticut with my family. I officially arrived home a few days ago and can’t wait to reunite with my extended family for our annual party in Niantic. We love getting together and connecting over great food, water views and taking time to remember and appreciate all those who have served and lost their lives for our country.
Now let’s talk about this outfit. This is actually our last outfit from our most recent trip to Costa Rica! Costa Rica was the perfect opportunity to test out the new trends and color stories before summer hit in New England. I used the opportunity to style jumpsuits, maxi skirts and most importantly the high waisted and wide legged trouser trend.
Now, this trend is one I’ve been seeing and loving this year. I’ve always loved a classic denim cut and while these aren’t traditional they do embody a retro American feel, perfect for New England summers. Whether you are pairing this look with a fashion-forward top like I did above, or just with a simple white tee, like I did here, it’s an easy look to transition from day to night. Most importantly this look is ideal for summer because of the wide-legged cut providing the perfect amount of air flow. There is nothing worse than having to throw on and sweat through denim skinny jeans in the humid heat, so when trousers are required I’ll be reaching for these pants in the upcoming months.
The high waisted and wide legged trouser trend is alive and more colorful than ever this year. I own a good denim pair, and just purchased this navy pair, but was ecstatic when The brand Whit was kind enough to loan me this white pair from their newest collection to shoot on location. I loved how the white and brown complimented each other while creating both depth and character to the outfit. I mean the buttons on the back of this top just make the look for me.
Anyway, I’m off to Niantic as we speak with my high waisted pants packed and loaded! Make sure to follow me over on Instagram to see my Memorial Day weekend plans unfold and leave a comment down below sharing which trend you are embracing this summer? I mean, I love it when you guys keep me in the loop. Anyway, wishing you all a Happy Memorial Day weekend, xx Aubrey.
