Today, we’re sharing 5 noteworthy New England leaf peeping stops!

During the fall season, Matt and I always laugh because it’s the only time of year we can set up for photoshoots without being questioned. Usually, we are met with curious looks or anticipating stares from strangers assuming Matt is setting up cameras to documental a proposal – especially during our couples photoshoots. But in the fall, we blend into the crowds of tourists toting their own cameras for leaf peeping!

While recently in Manchester, Vermont, it became clear to me leaf peepers had arrived from near and far to explore New England’s foliage. The observation got me thinking that it’s time I share some historic leaf peeping towns that may not typically be found on one’s leaf peeping route, but should be on your radar!

DORSET, VERMONT

Dorset hit the top of my bucket list for leaf peeping this year! I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was just a twelve-minute drive from the popular leaf peeing town of Manchester, Vermont. On Matt and I’s recent trip up to Vermont, we stopped at The Dorset Union Store were the images in this post were taken.

Founded in 1816, the historic area of Dorset is simply stunning! Matt joked that the area looked straight out of a movie set with white historic federals lining the green and American flags waving from front porches. The town is certainly worth the drive-through – as it captures the all-around aesthetic of quite Vermont.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CONNECTICUT

This is a top-secret historical district of mine that I’m excited to share it with you! To venture to South Windsor, CT I recommend plugging in this address (831 Main St, South Windsor, CT). You’ll end up at the town’s historic post office.

While it’s not a typical downtown with restaurants and coffee shops it is home to several gorgeous historic homes that have been featured on my Instagram time and again, as you can see here, here and here.

NEW SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS

This town gives me all the Halloween and foliage vibes!

Matt and I discovered New Salem on the way home from a corn maze in Orange, Massachusetts. The town is so quaint and home to a beautifully maintained colonial meetinghouse from 1794 and a revitalized 1750 Colonial Orchard called New Salem Preserves & Heritage Cider.

During our visit, Matt and I stocked up on cider to take home. We hope to make another trip soon with friends in tow to share the scenery, hard cider, and apple cider donuts!

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND

A few months back, I started exploring the area of Smithfield, Rhode Island during a visit to Wright’s Dairy farm, where I showcased one of my favorite dairy farm ice creams. While exploring the town with my siblings, I thumbnailed the location for a fall visit – specifically for a stop at Jaswell’s Farm.

From apple picking to cider donuts, Jaswell’s Farm has it all – and the foliage too!

It seems Rhode Island is often overlooked when it comes to leaf peeping. But, the New England coastline has the most brilliant foliage! See for yourself in this post of Mystic Connecticut.

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE

I love exploring Portsmouth, New Hampshire during both autumn and the holiday season!

A trip to Portsmouth is a great way to explore the colonial feel and foliage of New Hampshire just one hour north of Boston. I always recommend this stop for any visitors traveling to Boston in the fall!
