Antiquing is a hobby I am fond of! It all started when I lived in Dallas near a very small shop that sourced antiques from Europe quarterly. I became a repeat customer of the European store stocked with pastel portrait paintings and french humor transferware where the owners shared their insight and expertise.

Since leaving Dallas, I’ve acquired antiques from online stores like eBay, One Kings Lane, and Facebook Marketplace.

For all you gift-givers looking for a truly unique gift, I’m sharing a New Englander’s Guide to Gifting Antiques:

Antique Rugs

 I adore antique rugs! There’s something homey about them. Now, more than ever they’re easily accessible. You’re bound to find the antique rug of your dreams by following the Instagram of antique rug dealers (some of my favorites are District Loom, New England Loom and Upstate Rugs) or by scrolling Facebook Marketplace.

Antique Transferware

During the last couple of years, I’ve collected over ten antique transferware plates. They’re my most complimented antique pieces! I display our collection in the kitchen cabinets -as you can see here. But, they can also be hung as wall art!

Vintage Hermès Scarf

If you’re shopping for a fashion-forward lady or one that appreciates high fashion – I suggest a vintage Hermès Scarf. Not only are you gifting a one-of-a-kind fashion accessory, but you’re also giving a collectible piece. Antique Flexible Flyers

Currently, my garage is filled with antique flexible flyers of all shapes and sizes. Whether I’m using one as a prop in a blog post or as home decor for the exterior or interior of our home, they’re some of my favorite antiques! 

Collectible Ralph Lauren Bear Sweater

While this Ralph Lauren Bear Sweater isn’t an antique yet – they are collectible pieces with major future resale potential. If you don’t believe me just browse eBay to see all the vintage Ralph Lauren bear holiday sweaters – they aren’t cheap but a girl can dream! 

Antique Colonial Pastels:

These antique colonial pastels have been on my wishlist for quite some time! One day I hope to cover the main wall in our guest bedroom in a collection of these stunning antiques. Not only are they a unique snapshot of history – they’re irreplaceable!

Antique English Staffordshire Dogs

 There’s something about these dogs that are so funny and light-hearted. I have three in my home! They come in so many shapes and sizes as you can see here and here. 

Hitchcock Bench

If you live in New England, you may be familiar with Hitchcock Furniture! Hitchcock grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut. He was on the cusp of furniture design in colonial New England. In fact, it is stated that his chairs and designs were in almost every American middle-class family by 1825. Today you can find Hithcock furniture for resale online as seen here and here.
