Fall is Matt and I’s favorite season – but it’s also our busiest!

No matter how jam-packed our schedules get we always set aside at least one night a week for just us to enjoy. Since the weather is so perfect this time of year, there’s numerous options for outdoor date nights. So, I thought I’d share my tops picks for low budget fall-themed dates. Matt and I look forward to making fall memories every year! I hope our list inspires you. My favorite part of a fall-themed date is getting to dress cute and cozy for the cooler temperatures. So, before we discuss low-budget date ideas, I must share mine and Matt’s looks from Red Fleece!

Our date night was breezy so I bundled up in this gorgeous detailed cable-knit mock neck sweater. I tucked the sweater into my favorite Red Fleece piece from their new arrivals – this midi-length plaid skirt. I recommend buying one size up! The skirt has a matching jacket too! I tied my whole look together with these tasseled mules.  Matt wore a burgundy garment-dyed chino with a quarter zip cable-knit sweater – a closet staple for every boyfriend! Matt finished off his date night look with my favorite piece in his closet this houndstooth blazer. The blazer is so stylish, I’ve thought about stealing it and styling it as an oversized blazer for a work event or two myself!

1. All The Pickings – Apple & Pumpkin!

This time of year, my weekends are spent visiting farm stands and open picking farms. Just this weekend Matt and I visited Scott’s Apple Orchards in Glastonbury, Connecticut. While there, we stocked up on seasonal apples and created an impromptu photoshoot. Check out what we wore apple picking here.

2. Decorate Your Home

This is Matt and I’s first autumn living in our New England fixer-upper. Decorating for the holidays is something I’ve been looking forward to since we purchased our home last year. Use your date night funds to purchase a few seasonal decorations together! Check out three ways we decorated our mantel for autumn, here. 

3. Candle Making

During the offseason, Explore one of our favorite seaside towns – Rockport, Connecticut. At Rockport Candle Company’s workshop you can make custom fall or holiday candles!

4. Attend Local Harvest Fairs & Festivals

6. Visit A Cider Mill

For warm donuts and fresh-pressed hot apple cider head to your nearest cider mill. It’s the perfect low-budget date filled with the flavors of fall. Plus, cider mills make for great photo opportunities!

7.  Bake 

There’s something extra sweet about baking during this time of year! In fact, this past Saturday we stayed in and I baked up a spooky cake that will be hitting the blog later this week. If you’re looking for ways to use your freshly picked apples, peek at these apple-themed fall recipes. 

8. Go For A Foliage Hike

Matt and I do this often on weekends! We usually share snippets from our hikes over on Instagram Stories. 

9. Corn Maze

Test your navigation skills with a classic fall activity – the corn maze! Here’s a list of my favorite corn mazes in the area.

10. Fireside Dinner 

Historical Taverns and Inns host charming fireside dinners. Whether you’re in the mood for pumpkin bisque at the colonial GW Tavern or – my favorite fall comfort food -chicken-pot-pie at the historic Griswold Inn nothing cozier than dinner by a hearth. 

11. Antiquing

I love antiquing in the fall! Come fall, shoreline shops have less tourist traffic and usually offer better prices on more popular items. If you’re looking for places to antique check out our guide to antiquing on the eastern shoreline here and the western shoreline of Connecticut. 

12. Visit Yankee Candle Village

In my opinion, fall brings the best scents! Each year Matt and I stop by The Yankee Candle Village in Deerfield to stock up on our favorite seasonal candles.

13. Pancake House

Nothing is more indulgent than waking up early to crisp fall air and a thick stack of pancakes! I shared 5 Pancake House to explore in New Hampshire here. 

14. Last-Minute Plans

Matt and I often score last-minute tickets to big events in the area for a steal. Whether it’s going to Gillette on game day to score seats or calling The Bushnell the week of a performance to inquire about unsold seats for Broadway plays – sometimes being flexible in your plans can really pay off!

15. Have a Picnic 

Drop by a local bakery and fill your picnic basket with delicious fall treats. Then drive until the foliage is brilliant and pull over for a leaf-peeping picnic! Heres my 5 Best Leaf Peeping Picnic Spots In Massachusetts.

16. Pumpkin Carving

We’re almost to full Halloween mode – which means it’s time to make something spooky out of the pumpkins currently housed on our stoop.

17. Transition Your Home & Closet Into Fall

Staying in and switching over your home and wardrobe from summer to fall can feel just as good as going out. I recently purchased a few of these storage bins from Amazon with the motivation of getting more settled into our home this season.  

18. Hard Cider Tasting 

If apple cider isn’t reason enough to venture to a cider mill for a date, hard cider tastings might do the trick. With numerous mills in New England to choose from you’ll easily find one in your area. But, if you’re closer to my neck of the woods in Connecticut – check out Yankee Cider Co. for weekend tastings! 

19. Go To The Movies 

I’m a big fan of going to the movies, which is why I became a Cinemark Movie Member! For roughly $9 a month I get a movie ticket and 20% off all concessions. Plus, this time of year has the best new releases!

20. A Trip To Trader Joe’s

In all honesty, this might not be cheap. But, Matt and I love taking an autumn pilgrimage to Trader Joe’s to treat ourselves to all the fall flavors.
