[outfit_details] February is always a busy month for us – between Super Bowl Sunday, Matt’s birthday, and Valentine’s Day – weekend activities are endless. This year is especially busy since we are wrapping up renovations on our new house. A lot of time and money has gone into making our fixer-upper a home, so Matt and I have decided Valentine’s Day this year will be a little less conventional. Instead of jewelry or a romantic getaway (like our trip to San Francisco last year) we plan to spend this heart day at home exchanging furniture as gifts!

I know, furniture isn’t as glamorous as flowers. But, we are excited to start making memories in our home, which means having a place for us to sit!Without further ado, here’s a sneak peek of our interior in a New Englander’s Guide to refreshing your home’s interior:

A Clean Design:

Dining Room Chairs: Matt and I are furnishing our fixer-upper with minimal Colonial Interior Design. After hunting high and low, we found the perfect dining room chairs. These tucker chairs give your space classic style with a fresh feel. Plus, the modern understated frame comes in plenty of color options – making this seating option the best choice!

A Fresh Duvet Cover: Since I’ve had the same quilt draped on my bed for the last twenty-four years, it’s time to give our new bedroom a breath of fresh air. Fresh bed linens and sheets will change up any room by creating a clean slate. For our new bedding, I went with a crisp white and pale grey color scheme.

Collecting Character:

Staffordshire King Charles Spaniels: Stately dog statues have been on my decor collectors list for quite some time, but finding one in my price range deemed difficult. That is, until I found the perfect one tucked in the back of a fabulous antique shop in Dallas. Generally the pups are sold in pairs, but since its match had been smashed, the single statue was tagged at just $50. Needless to say, I grabbed the dog, jetted to check out, and made one of my favorite investments of 2018!
Drum Chandelier: As we dive deeper into our home renovation, I’ve realized updating light fixtures can make a major impact on a space. If you feel your space is falling flat, I highly recommend investing in a new chandelier, pendant, or fixed light fixture. For me, online sites like Wayfair, Build.com, and One Kings Lane lent success!
JOSEPHINE MIRROR: I’ll stand behind Anthropologie’s home section like nobody you’ve ever met. Roughly 90% of my current furniture is from Anthropologie and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’ve spent a lot of time searching for the perfect vanity mirrors for our new space and I fell in love with this Josephine Mirror instantly. Before you invest, look out for sales! Anthropologie often runs home decor sales that reach up to 25% off.

Rattan Storage Bin: A key part of refreshing your home is maintaining organization. While living in Dallas, I invested in a bunch of these storage bins. The bins contained chaos in our closets, office space, and pantry. Not only do they work great – they look pretty!

Dinner Plates: Currently, Matt and I are in the market for new plates. Dishes feel like an unconventional item to shop for, since couples generally are given kitchen necessities as wedding gifts. But, since we decided to take on a house first, we need to spend some time filling up our cabinets all by ourselves. Of course, I’ve fallen in love with these charming plates by Anthropologie. The scalloped edges add detail to the classic design, making any meal stylish.

Vintage Finds: Refreshing your home’s interior doesn’t always have to come at an extreme cost. In fact, some of my favorite finds come from auction sites like eBay where I can collect vintage pieces that speak my aesthetic. Plus, the bidding process is exciting – especially when I score a one-of-a-kind item at a bargain!
