In partnership with GE Appliances and Build.com, we are beyond excited to finally share our colonial kitchen reveal!
Matt and I have been working so hard to get to this point. If you’ve been following along, you might remember us demoing the kitchen way back in November – head over to our Youtube channel here to check it out.
When we began renovating our fixer-upper, the kitchen was the first space we tackled because it was our biggest project. Before we started any house demolition we made sure to have a plan in place, which was key in using our time efficiently and keeping costs low. Luckily, my cousin Michael – who is an architect – helped us with our plans, From there, we got started on the transformation!
Throughout the demolition process, there were highs and lows. The cabinet and drywall removal was a breeze since each piece came out in large chunks. The hardest part of the job was insulating the floor and taking down the popcorn ceiling.
The floor had no insulation and was over a slab, which meant cold floors and inefficient heating costs. Matt used a wrecking bar to pry up each piece of hardwood and removed the subfloor to fill with sparyfom. The project was very labor-intensive but was 100% worth it because now the kitchen is one of our warmest rooms!
Popcorn Ceiling Removal:
When we took down the drywall we came across some questionable electric work of old dead wires knotted up in a ball. Once removed, we took down the ceilings in two kitchen-adjacent rooms to create an open concept. Finally, the brand-new popcorn-free ceiling was installed.
I had a very specific vision for the design of our kitchen: True Historic Colonial!
For the design, I started out by picking my appliances. Growing up with GE Appliances in my parents’ kitchen, I know how important high-quality gadgets are. I also learned appliances are essential to the flow and functionality of one’s kitchen. So naturally, GE Appliances were my go-to pick.
For my kitchen, I wanted space for each appliance instead of grouping them together for a more appealing overall aesthetic. As for color, we went with the stunning slate tone. Matt and I have moved into our home about three months ago and couldn’t be happier with our new GE gadgets. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to partner with GE Appliances on our kitchen and showcase the GE Profile Line!
Below you’ll find a list of appliances in our kitchen:
GE Profile Slide-In Electric Range c/o.
GE Profile Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher with Hidden Controls c/o
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator c/o
GE Profile built-in microwave c/o
For our kitchen, I was determined to have a farmhouse sink!
With unbeatable prices and an extensive selection of products, I used Build.com several times throughout our renovation. When Build.com heard about our big kitchen renovation, they were kind enough to provide us with the farmhouse sink, faucet, and al.l hardware for our space. Next week – with the help of Build.com – we’ll be going over the process of hardware selection as it’s not an easy task and can be time-consuming!
Now if you’re wondering what took Matt and I so long to pull our kitchen reveal together – the answer is our cabinetry.
To anyone who is looking to renovate their kitchen: order your cabinetry as soon as possible! Pieces will be missing, some may arrive damaged, some may need replacing. If pieces are custom, orders and replacements can take up to twice as long.
For our kitchen cabinetry style, we chose a classic New England shaker design with exposed nickel-plated hinge barrels. As for color, we decided on a factory-finished color called tea leaf!
Truthfully, my favorite part of our new kitchen is the beadboard backsplash!
You should have seen the look on the faces of some when I told shared that our backsplash was going to be all beadboard and all green. But, I went with my gut and absolutely adore the outcome. Every morning I sit at my island to appreciate the character of the backsplash against our light-veined marble from Hartford Granite and Marble Company.
It wasn’t easy pulling this room together – as it was the most timeconsuming and laborious post demolition.
Most of the work was done by our amazing carpenter (if you are in the area and in need of a carpenter, please email me). On weekends, my dad and I worked on the finishing touches.
Now, Matt and I truly feel like we have our dream kitchen!

Your kitchen remodel is lovely. Iām so glad I found your post because I have been contemplating bead board for the kitchen backsplash. My home is a 1990 colonial with a white kitchen and dark brown corian countertops. Although I would like to do a more extensive renovation, I think I can pull off the bead board after seeing your application and make a pleasing difference. However, I have a request. Would you share the name and company of your light pendants? I have been looking for something along those lines. If you can share, I would surely appreciate it. Thank you.
Oh, I am just caught up in the complete beauty of this kitchen! Your pendants and color choices are my favorite! I have been searching for an island color for a long time. I need to find a similar color!
It’s so beautiful! I wish I had an eye for interior design, totally don’t!!
