If you’re daydreaming about starting a kitchen renovation, in the planning stages, or currently in the thick of demolition – I’m sharing everything you need to know about farmhouse sinks & kitchen hardware with Build.com!
A lot of time was spent creating the layout, flow, and color scheme of our now newly renovated kitchen. Throw in selecting final details – like metal finishes, hardware shape, and sink styles – and you’re looking at months of time and effort.
While most would focus on the cabinetry itself, I believe your choice of hardware, faucet, and sink are just as important to your kitchen’s overall aesthetic.
As we renovated our space, it didn’t feel complete until hardware was installed and a farmhouse sink was mounted. When it comes to creating your dream kitchen, it’s important to understand that it’s a lengthy process. With so many options to pick from, hardware and design elements can be hard to commit to. Deciding on one can get overwhelming quickly.
But, I urge you to not delegate or settle! Instead, turn to a retailer with a multitude of products, brand selection, and direction like Build.com.
To Farmhouse Sink or Not To Farmhouse Sink, That Is The Question
Honestly, our farmhouse sink is received the most compliments in our kitchen! It’s such a conversation starter that I guarantee if we put our house on the market the sink would sell the kitchen. In all seriousness though, for me, there was no debating on whether or not to put in a farmhouse sink. From the moment I started visualizing our space – a farmhouse sink was non-negotiable.
When you decide to install a farmhouse sink, there are a lot of moving part. At first, Matt was unsure if a farmhouse sink would be worth the hassle. The pieces of the sink itself are very heavy. So, I was happy to see Build.Com offered free delivery because the shipping alone was costly at other retailers.
When I began researching, I had a hard time finding a farmhouse sink for under $1,000. Luckily, Build.com offers several affordable options under the dreaded $1,000 mark.
When considering a farmhouse sink you’ll want to account for the extra installation steps in your budget. First, you’ll have to build a support platform inside your cabinetry to support the weight of the sink itself. Then – the scariest part of the installation – is you’ll need to cut the face of the sink cabinet perfectly to reveal the sink’s iconic apron side.
Our farmhouse sink is the first thing guests see when entering the kitchen – making it a focal point for our home. So, when asked if the installation was worth the hassle and additional cost – my answer is – “YES!”
If the cost is at the forefront of your mind – which it was and still is as we continue to renovate our home – Build.com is a great site to utilize. Build.com offers professionals and exclusive pricing on the best selection of products in stock and ready to ship. The company even has a few copper farmhouse sinks!
Mixing Metal In The Kitchen
One thing I struggled with during our kitchen renovation was letting go of the need to have everything be perfectly uniform. I always say I have a career in making things aesthetically pleasing, which sometimes means I spend a little too much time focusing on details. When we went about finalizing our kitchen hardware and coloring, I fell down the rabbit hole.
I wanted to make the hardware in the entire kitchen oil-rubbed bronze but knew that our shaker cabinetry’s brushed nickel hinges would be exposed. For a while, I thought about replacing all the hinges with oil-rubbed bronze hinges to make it all uniform. But, as I saw the cost climb I realized I needed to take a step back. With a big push from my Mom, I decided to mix metal finishes in the kitchen.
When I first made the decision, I was scared. But, I knew that if I didn’t like the outcome, I could easily contact one of Build.com’s dedicated account managers who are there to help streamline ordering, delivery, quoting and client coordination for any sized project you’re working on.
Build.com also has knowledgeable project experts! The experts help you find exactly what you need to make every home improvement project a success. They are available by phone, email, or chat 7 days a week. Plus, the advice is always free – which is so helpful!
I learned not to fear a design that’s not 100% uniform. Our kitchen from floor to ceiling is very green. While I adore my caramel bronze hardware, I’m so happy our gorgeous bridge kitchen faucet in satin nickel because it stands out against our green beadboard backsplash. Our bridge kitchen faucet is a stunner and is the perfect compliment to my dream kitchen.
Guests often ask why I decided to go with all knobs and no pulls in my kitchen – with the exception of the caramel bronze pull on the dishwasher front.
The answer is: I wanted to honor the historic look of most colonial homes. I’m also a messy cook so, pull drawers would set me up for a sticky situation.
I decided on simple mushroom styled hardware with just one knob on each piece of cabinetry – no matter the drawer size, shape, or weight. The look is clean and simple and I have Build.com to thank for that!
As for hardware and fixtures, they can be daunting to pick out. Luckily, Build.com has the best selection of home improvement products including trending and historical styles, unique finishes like caramel bronze, and favorite brands of mine like Signature Hardware and Amerock at competitive prices all in one place!
