Out of all the rooms we’ve renovated in our home, our colonial bathroom renovation has been my favorite!

Originally we Matt and I had planned to tackle the space down the road. But, when The Home Depot team reached out to partner with us, we knew this was the perfect opportunity to maximize our minimal space and create the perfect colonial bathroom for our guests. 

Usually, I start off a room renovation with a plan in mind. But, for this space, we had a few obstacles to tackle before nailing down the design. We had to work with the petite size of the space, research options for our low ceilings – which were an issue even for me at five-foot-two – and we had to decide what to do with the bathroom’s original castiron bathtub.

Initially, I thought eliminating a bathtub altogether would save space. But, we really didn’t want to give up having a bathtub in the house. So I took to Instagram and asked for your thoughts.

Messages poured in explaining the need for a bathtub in a home – especially if we planned to have or host children. So. just like that I ordered this mini clawfoot tub in polished chrome from TheHomeDepot.com

While Matt was busy reinsulating the room, screwing in nailers, and drilling in new green drywall – I was exploring many options for shower systems on TheHomeDepot.com. With the goal of keeping our colonial aesthetic cohesive – I ordered this Victorian Raindrop Showerhead, this three handle clawfoot tub faucet, this brass leg tub drain, and this Kohler shower valve kit. I ordered each piece in chrome to make the room feel bigger and brighter.

Once the pieces for our tub design were ordered, it was time to focus on the lack of height in the room. By incorporating vertical nickel gap boards into our space, we maintained the New England colonial feel while creating a visual illusion of length. For me, the nickel gap design element has made the entire space. Plus, it pairs perfectly with our slick black hexagon tiling!
